The MiG-15 (NATO reporting name 'Fagot') is a jet fighter developed for the Soviet Union by Mikoyan-Gurevich OKB. It was one of the first successful swept-wing jet fighters and achieved fame in the skies over Korea where, early in the war, it outclassed all straight-winged enemy fighters in most applications. The MiG-15 is believed to have been one of the most widely produced jet aircraft ever made, with over 12,000 built. Licensed foreign production possibly  raised the total to over 18,000.
The MiG-15 is often mentioned along with the North American F-86 Sabre as one of the best fighter aircraft of the Korean War and in comparisons with fighters of other eras.
The MiG-15bis is an improved version of the MiG-15, the main difference being the improved engine: the Klimov VK-1. Its level speed at sea level was increased by 26 km/h to 1,076 km/h. A noticeable change is the huge improvement in thrust-to-weight ratio which increased the acceleration by ~10% and also has a huge impact on its climb rate; the aircraft can reach up to 50 m/s at low altitude with full fuel tanks, making the MiG-15bis one of the best climbing planes compared to others at a similar battle rating. It is also better at performing vertical loops and other similar manoeuvres because of the improved engine, which has a better fuel combustion rate and less internal fuel tank capacity which reduces its flight range.
Other modifications include hydro-booster ailerons control to help the aircraft keep a high roll rate, improved avionics, radio navigation and NR-23 guns with a more rapid rate of fire.
The MiG-15 served as the starting point for development of the more advanced MiG-17 and now Bear Studios bring this legendary aircraft to Prepar3D and FSX.
