Differing from the rest of the light-plane field, the Buhl 'Bull Pup' LA-1 (Light Airplane) was a small shoulder-wing wire-braced monoplane with seating for one. Designed by Buhl Aircraft Company’s chief engineer, Etienne Dormoy, the aircraft was one of the first to have its fuselage constructed of an all-metal semi-monocot type with exterior longerons as bracing to prevent 'oil canning' under extreme load. The wings were built of solid spruce spars and spruce and plywood truss-type wing ribs covered with fabric. The leading edge was made of duralumin. The ailerons were riveted duralumin construction, covered with dural metal sheet. The same was of the vertical stabiliser. Wings rigged at a 3 1/2 degree dihedral were wire braced to the apex of a steel tube cabane atop the fuselage on the upper side and to a lower fuselage fitting on the underside. The bracing wires were of streamlined section and of heavy gauge. The long-legged landing gear used oleo spring shock absorbing struts; taxiing loads were snubbed by several loops of rubber shock cord. The tail skid was of a steel spring type. A wooden Flottorp propeller and Goodyear Airwheels were standard. Brakes were optional. The type certificate was first issued 3/17/1931 and given the ATC #405.

Our representation is that of the models LA-1 Land Plane and the LA-1S Float Plane. It is fully animated with tooltips active in the VC cockpit for all animated parts. Primarily developed for the 64-Bit versions (v4, v5) of Prepar3D, we have provided installers with versions supported by earlier versions of P3D and Legacy FSXA/FSX Steam Editions.

The package includes:

  • Buhl LA-1 Bull Pup Land Plane and the LA-1S Float Plane
  • High quality, fully animated 3D model with five period correct liveries
  • High Resolution 4K DXT 5 textures
  • Physically Based Rendering (PBR) material properties applied to P3D v4 and v5 models
  • Fully modelled detailed animated Szekely SR-3-O three-cylinder radial engine
  • Fully animated virtual cockpit with VC cockpit shadowing and smooth 3D modelled gauges
  • User-controlled aircraft Configuration Manager
  • Custom VC sound package
  • Volumetric propeller textures
  • High Fidelity sound files
  • Precision flight dynamics
  • Fully animated pilot figure
  • Custom installer for all host simulators
