La Gomera airport opened in 1999 near the town of Playa Santiago and has a runway of only 1500 metres, meaning the airport is unsuitable for international traffic. The airport is around 50 minutes drive away from the capital, San Sebastian.
Airport traffic is around four small aircraft a day, flying between Tenerife North and Gran Canaria, and there is occasional traffic between La Palma and El Hierro.
