The Robin DR400 is a popular and successful trainer that was conceived in the early 1970s and flew for the first time in 1972. At least 1,300 were built. Its wooden structure and characteristic ’cranked wing’ make it look older than it is - it's actually a light and highly efficient modern design, with low-drag fabric-covered wings and fuselage. The Robin is easy to fly at any speed, making it a favourite with flying schools. The Robin can tow gliders, carry four people and has proven to be very reliable.

This is an ideal aircraft for beginners, and experts will appreciate the very advanced flight characteristics that are truly highly accurate. Some models are so accurate that even the idiosyncrasies of these older aircraft are included. The D-EVEM model flown by the head of development, for example, has a rather serious tendency to turn left. On most models this is countered by a trim tab, but only very recently on this model, so this aircraft is not easy to fly without rudder pedals! Some other models are better balanced and easier to fly, but this shows how detailed the aircraft actually are!
