FAQs

Compatibility with Traffic PlusPaks

At the present time, the Traffic PlusPak's need to be installed in "PlusPak for Flight Simulator with default or custom AI Traffic" mode. We hope to add a "PlusPak for Flight Simulator with Traffic X" as soon as possible.
If the PlusPak is already installed in anything other than the "Custom AI" mode then it should be reinstalled.

I have found that the levels of Traffic are quite low at some airports

Please install Traffic X Service Pack 1 available from this page

I am not seeing any A.I. after installing Traffic X

The most likely cause for this is if you have previously installed another A.I. traffic program that uses an old style .bgl (the file that acts as a database for A.I. traffic movements) as FSX is only capable of supporting one of these files in the old format and it will disable any other traffic. Please try searching your FSX directory for anything that may have been left behind by a previous A.I. program

I have re-built my FSX.cfg and it has caused me to lose my Traffic X aircraft

Traffic X adds certain file paths to the FSX.cfg that will need to be restored in order for FSX to locate the Traffic X aircraft. To do this automatically please download and run the restoration tool using the link below:

Using the tool:

This tool will only update the settings for the user account that you are currently logged into (FSX has an individual FSX.cfg for each user running FSX).
Simply run the tool, confirm that the path shown is for the account you wish to update and click the button on the window

File size: 1.3Mb

I get an error message when trying to load the Traffic Control Centre

Traffic X Control Centre requires the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.

If you do not have the .NET Framework 2.0 on your system you will need to download it from here.

Users with a 64 bit operating system (XP64, Vista) should download the 64 bit version from here

I am using third party airport software and the A.I. aircraft are now parking in the wrong locations

Please go to your Scenery Library found in Settings and move the entries for the third-party airports above the Traffic X entries. This should ensure that FSX uses the parking positions for the custom scenery

I have Traffic 2005 installed and used the Traffic X upgrade but I cannot see any Traffic X aircraft!

Traffic 2005 needs to be completely uninstalled from FSX prior to installation of Traffic X. Despite its name, the upgrade doesn't update the Traffic/Traffic 2005 files, its identical to the standard Traffic X product and therefore any other traffic products need to be removed.

I don't see any AI traffic at all after installing Traffic X

Please check that your Traffic slider in Settings>Traffic is set to a reasonable level and that both Airliners and General Aviation traffic has been enabled. If this doesn't produce any traffic then please go to the Traffic Control Centre located in the Start menu and re-compile the traffic database (details are available in the manual)

If these steps fail to resolve the problem then you may have an old FS2004 format traffic database still installed into FSX. FSX is only capable of running one legacy BGL file from older versions of Flight Simulator and having one running will cause ALL other AI traffic to be suppressed including river/sea traffic and Traffic X. If you have previous used an AI program in FSX that does not use the a proper FSX format database please ensure that you have uninstalled the program. If this does not resolve the program then we have put together a tool that will search any and all folders being referenced by FSX in order to locate any old style .bgl files. This tool can be downloaded using the link below:

 (1.5Mb)

To use this tool simply run it once you have downloaded it. When the program opens you will see a "Begin Scan" button. Use this to begin searching but please note that the search will take several minutes and may appear to be unresponsive. Once the scan has finished it will display any conflicting BGLs that it has found. You then have the option to open the containing folder and manually remove them from FSX or to disable them via the tool. Please be aware that any changes you make will not visible once you have closed the tool down.

Use of this tool is at your own risk and Just Flight will not accept any responsability if you choose to disable other 3rd part products

Traffic X requires FSX Service Pack 2

Some customers installing Traffic X in to Flight Simulator X may get a message stating that Service Pack 1 or higher is required. However Traffic X actually requires you to have FSX SP1 and FSX SP2 (or Acceleration) installed for the product to work correctly.

To download FSX SP1 or FSX SP2 please visit the "Flight Simulator X" support page via the drop down menu on http://www.justflight.com/support.asp

How do I recompile the traffic database to reflect the changes that I have made using the Traffic Control Centre?

Please open the Traffic Control Centre and click on Traffic Movements

Click on the Compile Traffic X Flight Plans button, select the TrafficX.bgl file and click Save. If it asks you whether you wish to overwrite the existing file, choose Yes.

The traffic database will re-compile.

How do I remove the ladders/stairs from the flyable aircraft?

To remove the ladders/stairs from the aircraft, switch on the lights using the L key

After installing Traffic X, I am experiencing problems at particular airports/airfields

Please go into your FSX settings menu and select Scenery Library

A list will appear, containing an entry called Traffic X Airport Facilities. Untick the entry to disable it, click OK to save the changes that you have made and then see if the problem still occurs.

If the problem no longer remains, please use the link at the bottom of this page to contact the technical support team. Explain which airport/airfield you are encountering problems with and they will be able to identify what is causing the problem.

When viewing an AI aircraft from a long distance, the landing gear disappears

The AI aircraft are built with different levels of detail (LODs). This means that you can see all of the aircraft detail when close to the AI aircraft, but when you are a significant distance from it less detail will be visible. This allows you to have a large number of AI aircraft without affecting performance too greatly.
