FS2004 Compatibility - Installation hints

Most programs and packages allow installation with FS2004 if some points are considered. In general please note:
Automatic installation only works with either FS2002 or FS2004. The procedures described below do not support an installation of the same product for FS2002 and FS2004 at the same time.

The following guide covers installation of a product with the example of World Airports; it only describes the relevant sections where differences in installation occur. For the installation in general, see the installation manual of the relevant product.

The main issue when installing FS2002 software into FS2004 is the selection of the appropriate installation folder. The installer program reads the information from the Windows Registry and automatically offers to install the software into the folder of Flight Simulator.

As Flight Simulator 2004 is not recognised bythe installer so far it will only offer installation into the FS2002 folder. For direct installation into the FS2004 folder please do the following:

Insert your product CD and run the installer (by autostart or manually). The installer will try to detect the destination folder for the installation. If the product can be installed on different simulators (FS2000, FS2002, Combat Flight Simulator etc.) you may see a selection window asking which simulator version you wish to install into:

Always select 'FS2002' in this case. Some products do not offer these options; in this case there's only one 'Install' button.

Click the button, cancel the demo video, choose your preferred install language, press 'Next' on the welcome screen and comfirm the Licence Agreement with 'OK'.

The next Window will show the install folder.

This folder at the moment is your FS2002 folder. If you choose a default installation of FS2002 this will be C:Program Files/Microsoft Games/FS2002. In case you don't have FS2002 installed you will get a message telling you that FS2002 has not been found.

In both cases click the 'Browse' button and browse your hard disk for the FS2004 folder. If you choose a default installation of FS2004 this will be C:Program Files/Microsoft Games/Flight Simulator 9. Select the folder, click OK and the above window will appear again, this time with the updated destination folder showing.  

Click 'Next' - the rest of the installation will be as described in the product manual.
Uninstall works automatically; there are no special points to be considered.
