FS2004 Compatibility - General notes on testing and compatibility

The suitability of Just Flight published Flight Simulator 2002 (FS2002) software in Flight Simulator 2004 (FS2004)

The list of tested products covers the most common of our our current and recent products with appropriate comments as to their use in FS2004. Older products with different styles of installer may not be covered by these notes. Generally all main products released for FS2002 are covered.

In our extensive range of software there are tens of thousands of individual components. It is impossible to test each product fully in every type of configuration or system set-up. Below are general guidelines to the installation and use of these programs, as well as detailed information on the single packages tested. Please choose a program from the list to get the information you need.

We have posted information here as and when the developers of specific software products have replied to enquiries or updated their particular software product and its use in FS2004; you may also wish to contact the developers directly via their websites. In the majority of cases Just Flight is the publisher of the products rather that the developer and therefore the modification of the actual software code is not under our direct control.

where possible we have placed FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) about the installation and use of a particular product in the Support section. We have also included any patches/updates which to allow limited or full use of a particular product in FS2004. If a new, enhanced FS2004 version of a product is released we will do our best to ensure that there is a beneficial upgrade path to that new version for registered Just Flight customers.

General comments on using FS2002 software in FS2004

Manuals

No current manual makes any mention of how to install into FS2004. Generally, though, their contents still hold true apart from the areas that cover the items detailed below.

Installation

Depending on the type of installer (and different products have different types of installer) the installation may or may not be simple. It may be a case of just uninstalling a previous version and, when re-installing it, simply pointing the installer to the location of FS2004. Other cases may involve placing a small file in the FS2004 directory to fool the install program. It needs to be assumed that all products will need some kind of manual adjustment to the install procedure.
