MICROSOFT Service Pack 2 (SP2) and Acceleration Pack
Microsoft has now released a Service Pack to update and enhance Flight Simulator X. This pack (usually referred to as SP2) is automatically installed with the FSX Acceleration expansion pack or it can be downloaded from the official Flight Simulator website or on this website here.
The installation of Service Pack 2 can give rise to a couple of issues, which are addressed in the two FAQs below.
FAQ 1- After installing Service Pack 2/Acceleration I get odd windscreen, instrument and propeller effects – why?
Service Pack 2 causes a few graphics anomalies with some expansions for FSX and we are currently working on patches to address them. Generally, it can cause darkened screens and odd propeller effects. For more specific details visit our Support section and Browse By Product to the relevant aircraft.
If you don’t see your product listed then it is likely that it works fine with SP2. If you’re not sure, check the System Requirements on the individual product pages.

FAQ 2 - After installing Service Pack 2/Acceleration pack and running in DX10 Preview mode, some aircraft appear to have lost their textures – can this be fixed?
If you are running Windows Vista and have a DirectX 10 graphics card, Service Pack 2 installs a selectable preview mode to show how Flight Simulator will look when the DirectX 10 graphics system is fully enabled. It is likely that this will be fully functional in the next version of Flight Simulator. However, one side effect is that any aircraft that are not DX10-ready may be missing their textures. To resolve this you can simply untick the DX10 Preview in the Display Setting menu.
If you don’t see this option in the Display menu then you don’t have a DX10-ready PC and you won’t experience this side-effect.

FS2004 Compatibility
We realise that not all FS enthusiasts will be immediately upgrading to the latest version of Flight Simulator, so see below for a link to the Compatibility details we made available when FS2004 was released:
