WINDOWS VISTA - HINTS FOR INSTALLING JUST FLIGHT ADD-ONS

A program needs your permission to continue

An 'AutoPlay' box appears when you insert your Just Flight product

You are asked to install Adobe Acrobat Reader

A program needs your permission to continue

Windows Vista will alert you that "A program needs your permission to continue" as part of the new User Account Control system. On our latest products this will show the name of the title which you are trying to install and "Just Flight Ltd". On older products it may say that the publisher is unknown.

If you are using a Standard User account (as recommended by Microsoft) then you will be prompted to enter the password for your Adminstrator account. If you are already running in Administrator mode you will not have to enter a password.

Simply click on "Continue" and Windows should allow you to continue as normal.

Find out about User Account Control here.

An 'AutoPlay' box appears when you insert a Just Flight product

This is a change in functionality from previous versions of Windows, and gives you the option to either browse the contents of the disc or run the software - simply click on "Run start.exe" and the installer will launch as normal.

On our latest products this will show the name of the title which you are trying to install and "Just Flight Ltd". On older products it may say that the publisher is not specified.

You are asked to install Adobe Acrobat Reader

Some of our software requires Adobe Acrobat Reader to be installed so electronic PDF manuals can be read.

If you click on the "Install Acrobat Reader" button (see image on left) you will get a warning about compatibility, as shown in the image above.

Instead you should click on the "Continue without installing Acrobat" button, and this will allow you to continue the installation.

To ensure compatibility with Windows Vista we recommend that you download and install the latest version of the free Adobe Acrobat Reader from the Adobe website.

Unofficial Vista Workaround

Certain programs do not work in Vista due to the enhanced security measures that are employed by Vista. Some programs need to be able to write data in the ‘Program Files’ section of Vista, but it does not allow that under normal circumstances.

A generic workaround, however, can be employed to get these programs to work in Vista by moving Flight Simulator X (FSX) or Flight Simulator 2004 (FS2004) to a location outside the ‘Program files’ folders where data can be written to by Vista.

This action should not be undertaken lightly as it involves uninstalling (not just copying or moving!) all add-on programs as well as FSX/FS2004 itself and then reinstalling FSX/FS2004 and your add-on programs into the new location outside the ‘Program files’ folders, which is ideally the root of you main Hard Drive (normally C).

Important: Please be aware that this is not official advice or a recommendation, and if you choose to perform these actions it is entirely at your own risk. Just Flight will not accept any liability whatsoever for any issues that may occur, or are perceived to have occurred, by following the above suggestion.
